Curriculum

Ballet I

Black Leotard, Pink Tights
1 Class Per Week
Working primarily in first and second position. Emphasis is placed in teaching proper posture and placement of the body. Students are introduced to the five primary positions and the basic fundamental movements of dance: plie (to bend), releve (to rise), sauté (to jump), glisse (to glide), elance (to dart) and etendre (to stretch). The class will be divided into three sections: barre work, center work (which will emphasize stretching) and across the floor. Students will learn the technical terms of ballet and exercises will be explained and demonstrated in a manner that the young dancers can understand.

Ballet II

Black Leotard, Pink Tights
1 Class Per Week/ 2 classes per week is highly recommended.
Students should have at least one full year of ballet training. Barre exercises will expand to include more extension (developpe) work and footwork (frappe and pique). Stretches at the barre will be introduced and arm positions (port de bras) will be incorporated into barre exercises. Simple turns (chaines and soutenu) and jumps (changements and jetes) will be introduced and more focus will be placed on strengthening the center of the body for balance.

Ballet III

Black Leotard, Pink Tights
2 classes per week.
Students having completed Ballet II level work and having been evaluated and placed by an instructor in Ballet III level. Students will expand on Ballet II level work with exercises and combinations at the barre and center being increased in length and difficulty. At least one clean pirouette will be perfected and larger jumps will be introduced. Students will be expected to know correct terminology for steps being performed.

Ballet IV

Black Leotard, Pink Tights
2 Classes Per Week.
Students having completed Ballet III level work and having been evaluated and placed by an instructor in Ballet IV level. Expanding on Ballet III level work, with an increase in difficulty of combinations. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening the center of the body in preparation for beginning pointe work. Class exercises will be practiced with performance skills in mind at all times.

Ballet V and Ballet VI

Black/Any Color Leotard, Pink Tights or Black cut-off tights permissible
2 Classes Per Week/ 3 classes per week is highly recommended.
Students having completed prerequisite classes and having been evaluated and placed by an instructor in Ballet V or VI levels. They must have a strong knowledge of ballet vocabulary, technique, and placement. Combinations will be learned quickly and executed at performance levels. Level V students will begin pointe work at the recommendation of the instructor and Level VI students will continue to perfect their pointe work strength and skills. Students are expected to take all classes in their level.

Teen and Open Ballet

Black Leotard, Pink Tights
Designed for students who develop an interest in the study of Ballet at a later time. These classes are available for students not wishing to fulfill the minimum requirements. These classes are also designed for dancers seeking to compliment and improve other forms of dance training.

Adult Ballet

Any appropriate ballet attire
Taught as an open level class. Adult ballet is designed to incorporate the beauty, grace, and strength ballet training has to offer to help relieve stress and tone the body.

 

Pre School Dance

3-4 years of age/ appropriate dance attire: any color leotard, pink tights or bobby socks, leather ballet shoes.
Combining movement, music, creativity, and the imagination is the main focus of this program. Using elements of creative movement, classical ballet, & Tap to help develop coordination, balance, and rhythm, this class will introduce your child to the beauty of music and the love of dance.

Combination Classes

4-6 years of age/ appropriate dance attire: any color leotard, pink tights or bobby socks, leather ballet shoes and tap shoes.
Providing a foundation for all forms of dance, this class will introduce your child to beginning Ballet and Tap.

Lyrical, Contemporary and Modern

Jr Lyrical 1 and 2, Teen Lyrical, Intermediate Contemporary, Advanced Contemporary, Modern 1 and 2

Dance attire in any color
Incorporating Ballet, Jazz, and Modern forms of dance. Lyrical puts emphasis on
freedom of expression through movement and interpretation of music. All students
enrolled in Lyrical classes must also be enrolled in Ballet. No exceptions.
Level of lyrical class is to be determined by the student's ballet level and by the recommendation of the instructor.

Jazz

Pre Jazz, Jazz 2 -6

Dance attire in any color
Classic, contemporary, and funk styles.
Dance Creations offers Jazz training in all levels beginning through advanced, exploring a variety of styles within the genre of Jazz dance. Strong emphasis will be placed on technique, incorporating many aspects of ballet and modern dance. Class instruction includes a warmup, center exercises to increase strength and flexibility, progressions across the floor, leaps and turns, as well as choreographed routines taught to popular music. Additional study in ballet is highly recommended for levels II and III and required for levels IV, V, and VI. No exceptions.

Tap

Pre Tap 1, Tap 2-3, Jr Int/Adv Tap, Teen Int/Adv Tap, Adv Tap

Dance attire in any color
Dance Creations offers Tap training in all levels beginning through advanced, studying both traditional and contemporary styles of Tap. Technical correctness and the importance of rhythms and sounds of tap will be focused upon as well as the importance of overall line and movement of the body in conjunction with the movement of the feet.
Precision and speed (in both center and across the floor movement) increases in difficulty at each level.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop 6-8 yrs., 9-12 yrs. and Teen,  Jr Hip Hop 2, Teen Int and Int/Adv Hip Hop

Appropriate dance attire, no jeans, skirts, or street shoes. Wear clean tennis shoes.
Street dance styles and up to date moves incorporated in upbeat routines to popular music.

Acro

Acro 1-6

Acro for dance combines classical forms of dance with acrobatic elements.  Athletic in character, training will include exercises to build strength, flexibility, balance and stamina, mat tumbling skills, inversions, and trust activities.
